Glow
Dedicated to Sybil DeFord (Fey) 1973-2005

I was attuned to the shades of grey in an overcast sky,
And found my beauty in the rolling texture of a single stretch of cloud,
but I saw your rays break through in the distance,
and the clouds dispersed into silver-lined feathers.
There you were in your glory,
shining down with an intensity that
warmed my skin and deeper even in the shadows.

And I saw you grow and set the wisps of cloud on
fire as you fell into the West, turning
from yellow against the blue sky to
hazy orange and red. And my
eyes were fixed on you,
aching to horde the last rays of light.

You sank, and touched the horizon.
Shadows stretched to the East,
and reds gave way to grey.
I stared on, and ran to the West,
trying to capture one more moment,
and still you slipped under the horizon.

But I turned around and saw your light in the moon.
